Mon 5/1	Collapse of Communism	Mini-lecture and blogs about the collapse of communism.
Fri 4/28	Nelson Mandela and South Africa	Students will view and discuss various documents and readings about South Africa, Apartheid and Nelson Mandela.
Thur 4/27	Creation of Israel	Students will read about and discuss (using accountable talk) the creation of Israel in an otherwise Islamic Middle East.
Wed 4/26	OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.)	Students will read about, and analyze documents about OPEC and its importance on the US economy. The staggering amount of oil and gas used in the US will be discussed using SUV's as an example of excesses.
Tue 4/25	African Independence - Creation of Pakistan	Class reading to finish up African Independence. Then discussion of Creation of Pakistan along with film clips from Gandhi that show creation of Pakistan (separation of Hindus and Muslims).
Mon 4/24	African Independence	Students will see powerpoint about African Independence, then will work on a class blog about African Independence.
Wed 4/12	African Independence	Students will see 2 brainpops: Korean War and Vietnam War. Then will do a blog posting on African Independence.
Tue 4/11	Review Quiz and Thematic Essay	Students will review quizzes from Monday and Re-take? Students will get back and review their Cold War Thematic Essays.
Mon 4/10	Quiz: Cold War, etc.	Students will see 2 brainpops: Cold War and Communism. Students will get back their blog grades. Then take quiz (see last Friday 4/7 for quiz content).

Tue 4/4	Chinese Communist Revolution	Students will complete 2-day lesson where they make power point presentations on The Chinese Communist Revolution.
Mon 4/3	Chinese Communist Revolution	Students will begin 2-day lesson where they make power point presentations on The Chinese Communist Revolution.
Fri 3/31	Cold War	Students will have one class period to complete a five paragraph Thematic Essay on the Cold War. Students were given the essay question on Monday.
Thur 3/30	Cold War	Film: "Dr. Strangelove". Students will see selected scenes from this Cold War film.
Wed 3/29	Cold War	Film: "The Right Stuff". Students will see more scenes from the film, followed by a review of Regents questions based on the Cold War.
Tue 3/28	Cold War	Film: "The Right Stuff". Students will see selected scenes from this Cold War drama.
Mon 3/27	Cold War - Thematic Essays	Students will get mini lecture relating Muhammad Ali to the Cold War (because Mr. Moloney just bought the new Adidas Muhammad Ali sneakers - and he is Mr. Moloney's hero). Then students will be introduced to Regents Style Thematic Essays. Students will be assigned a Cold War Thematic Essay that they will write in class on Friday 3/31.
Fri 3/24	Half Day	Half day for parent-teacher conferences. Only periods 1 + 3 will meet.
Thur 3/23	Cold War	Students will do readings and view documents related to The Cold War.
Wed 3/22	Cold War	Students will do a text reading and worksheet as an intoduction to The Cold War.
Tue 3/21	Quiz: WW II and Holocaust	Students will review quizzes from Monday then retake quizzes because the scores were so bad! Final quiz grade will be an average of the two quizzes (a 60 on the first take and an 80 on the second take averages to a 70). Re-taking the quiz cannot hurt you - you cannot lower your grade if you score lower the second time.
Mon 3/20	Quiz: WW II and Holocaust	Students will view some class blogs then take a 20 question multiple-choice quiz on WW II and the Holocaust.
Fri 3/17	Review for Quiz on WW II and Holocaust	Students will see 2 "brain pop" historical cartoons - then review for Mondays quiz on WW II and The Holocaust.
Thur 3/16	The Holocaust	Film: Night and Fog. Students will watch all of this 32 minute documentary, followed by Regents Questions based on the Holocaust.
Wed 3/15	The Holocaust	Students will get back and review their DBQ essays from last week. Film: Schindlers List. Students will view selected scenes from the film.
Tue 3/14	The Holocaust	Film: Schindlers List. Students will view selected scenes from the film.
Mon 3/13	The Holocaust	Last day of marking period. Selected readings and documents about the Holocaust.
Fri 3/10	The Holocaust	Textbook worksheet about Holocaust.
Thur 3/9	DBQ - Atomic Bombing of Japan	Students will complete their DBQ essay on the Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Wed 3/8	DBQ - Atomic Bombing of Japan	Students will begin a two-day, seven document, DBQ essay on the Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Tue 3/7	Atomic Bombs and DBQ Review	Students will view documents and photographs of the bombings at Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima/Nagasaki. A review on proper DBQ essay writing will follow.
Mon 3/6	WW II	Students will present their WW II powerpoints to the class.
Fri 3/3	WW II	Students will finish their powerpoints about WW II.
Thur 3/2	WW II	Briefly review quiz from Wed. - then students will have 2 days to make a power point presentation about a particular aspect of WW II.
Wed 3/1	Quiz: Gandhi + etc. (see below)	Students will view a "Brainpop" cartoon about the causes of WW II before taking quiz.
Tue 2/28	Review for Quiz. All Blogs due at 6 pm today! I would suggest you look at the Global Notes- (Brief Version), on my homepage. Notes #'s 34 - 39. Also look at related questions from regentsprep.org	Quiz: 20 questions multiple choice. This quiz covers many topics. Mon 2/27	Appeasement and Japanese Imperialism	Students will read and analyze documents about the Appeasement of Hitler and the rise of Japanese Imperialism in the Pacific.
Fri 2/17	Rise of Fascism and the road to WW II	Students will see selected scenes from "The Great Dictator",  which is a comical take on the relationship between Hitler and Mussolini. Will also view documentary footage about the making of this controversial film.
Thur 2/16	Rise of Fascism	Readings and documents on the rise of the totalitarian governments of Hitler and Mussolini.
Wed 2/15	Rise of Fascism	Text reading and questions about rise of Hitler and the road to WW II.
Tue 2/14	Treaty of Versailles	Reading and blog entry on the Treaty of Versailles.
Mon 2/13	Intro to Blogs + Mustafa Kemal	Students get intro to new Global Studies class blog. Begin blog entry on Mustafa Kemal.
Fri 2/10	Gandhi and Indian Independence	Film: Gandhi. Students will watch the final scene from Gandhi and then review a series of Regents Question based on film. Student website content will be discussed if time allows.
Thur 2/9	Gandhi and Indian Independance	Film: Gandhi. Students will view scenes from Gandhi and take notes for a film review on Gandhi.
