Wed 5/13	Collapse of Communism	Mini-lecture and blogs about the collapse of communism.
Tue 5/12	Creation of  Israel	Students will read about and discuss (using accountable talk) the creation of Israel in an otherwise Islamic Middle East.
Mon 5/11	OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.)	Students will read about, and analyze documents about OPEC and its importance on the US economy. The staggering amount of oil and gas used in the US will be discussed using SUV's as an example of excesses.
Fri 5/8	Creation of Pakistan	Discussion of Creation of Pakistan along with film clips from Gandhi that show creation of Pakistan (separation of Hindus and Muslims).
Thur 5/7	Nelson Mandela and South Africa	Students will view and discuss various documents and readings about South Africa, Apartheid and Nelson Mandela.
Wed 5/6	Nelson Mandela and South Africa	Students will do an in-class blog about Apartheid and Nelson Mandela.
Tue 5/5	African Independence	Students will write a blog post about African Independence.
Mon 5/4	African Independence	Students will view powerpoint and do reading about African Independence.
Fri 5/1	Review Quiz - then Begin African Independence	Students will review their quizzes; then retake them because grades were not so good.
Thur 4/30	Quiz	Students will see 2 brainpops: Cold War and Communism.  Then take quiz.

Tue 4/21	Thematic Essay - Cold War	Students will have one 46-minute class period to write a Thematic Essay about the Cold War. Students were given the question on Monday and have had a night to prepare. Remember: Blogs due on Wednesday!
Mon 4/20	Thematic Essays	Student's will get an introduction to proper thematic essay writing. We will view about 10 former New York State Regents Thematic Essay's. Then students will receive directions for a Cold War Thematic Essay that they will write in class on Tuesday. - 4 Blogs due on Wed! (if you missed the film ("The Right Stuff") you can write a blog on the Cuban Missile Crisis.)

Fri 3/27	The Holocaust and WWII	Students will have class time to work on their blogs and prepare for the Quiz on Monday.

Wed 3/25	The Holocaust	Film: Schindler's List. Students will view and discuss selected scenes from the film, then students will get back their DBQ essay's from last week.

Thur 3/5	Rise of Fascism and the road to WW II	Students will see selected scenes from "The Great Dictator",  which is a comical take on the relationship between Hitler and Mussolini. Will also view documentary footage about the making of this controversial film.
Wed 3/4	Causes of WW II	Students will finish their poster illustrating the causes of WW II.

Fri 2/27	Appeasement and Japanese Imperialism	Students will read and analyze documents about the Appeasement of Hitler and the rise of Japanese Imperialism in the Pacific.
Thur 2/26	Rise of Fascism	Readings and documents on the rise of the totalitarian governments of Hitler and Mussolini.
Wed 2/25	Rise of Fascism	Text reading and questions about the rise of Hitler and the road to WW II.
Tue 2/24	The Treaty of Versailles	Blog post on The Treaty of Versailles. First three blogs due Thur. 2/26 @ 6 pm.
Mon 2/23	The Treaty of Versailles	Readings, documents, and discussions of The Treaty of Versailles. Then students will get some tips on how to take the Global Regents Exam.
Fri 2/13	Mustafa Kemal and Modern Turkey	Brief lecture on the post-WW I demise of the Ottoman Empire and the rise of modern Turkey. Then a blog entry on Mustafa Kemal and modern Turkey.
Thur 2/12	Gandhi and Indian Independence	Students will work on a blog about Gandhi and Indian Independence.
Wed 2/11	Gandhi and Indian Independence	Students will watch selected scenes from Gandhi. Then will receive mini-lecture about the importance of letters of recommendation for college.
Tue 2/10	Gandhi and Indian Independence	Students will watch selected scenes from Gandhi.

Thur 2/5	Set up Blog pages.	Students will set up their own Global Studies blog pages.  Then e-mail your blog address (url) to Mr. Moloney when you are done (mmoloneyiths@yahoo.com).
Wed 2/4	Intro. to Class and Website	Students will get an introduction to class website and a discussion of graduation requirements, and earnings based on level of education.
Tue 2/3	Seating assignments	1st day of classes - 20 minute classses - so we will only work on attendance and seating.
