Dear Mom, Today was such a horrible day. It was the first time a King was ever executed in PUBLIC. When it was over people walked over to him and dipped their hankercheifs in his blood to put on a wound. I cant blame the people for not liking him. King Charles 1 believed in his divine right to rule. Because he thought this of himself he thoughts rules and laws were below him. He was having a power struggle with Parliament. People don't like absolute monarchs, however for his execution, there were 68 votes for him to be executed and 67 for him not to. It was a very close call. Charles the second took over the throne after his father's death. The English Parliament passes the Bill of Rights to limit a King or Queen's power. I think he should have been banished from England, not killed.
