Dear Jeffrey,

The Communist Revolution in China took place in 1949. The
reason the Chinese had a revolution was because Mao thought that every
thing should be split equally among the people, so he took houses and
lands away from the rich and shared it equally among the poor. He grew up
as a peasant so he didn't like the wealthy that much because he thought
that they were selfish and he thought that they should all share with the
poor. When the communist revolution took place America and the Soviet Union
both were on different sides. The Americans went for the Nationalist and
the Soviet Union went with the Communist. They both gave money to there
allies. Mao had gain power by having the more peasant to go on his side.
He did that by telling them if they fought he will give them food and
shelter. So with China having the largest population in the world he gain
a lot of power. Once Mao was in power he shared all the lands, but he did
something really stupid that he even later admitted to. He tried to have
a cultural revolution. Its not what you think when you hear the word
Culture, he tried to make peasants the hero's and educated people bad guys.
He shut down all the schools. he had a group of people call the Red Guards
and their job was to imprisoned or execute any one that resisted the
regime. The result of that was thousands of people were executed. Mao even
made a bigger mistake he had a thing called The Great Leap Forward. That
was when he tried to modernize the country but in result of that the crops
failed and caused a famine that killed about twenty million people. Mao
made a lot of mistake as a ruler these were some of them that affected
China. So now you see what a communist can do with a country that the
people have no control over. I think thats one of the reason America is
Democratic country.
